Preserve the Bark Eater

Benefit: August 28, 2011

NEWS & FOLLOW-UP: Preserve the Bark Eater Benefit

We would like to thank everyone who so generously contributed their time, services, and goods in preparation for the Preserve the Bark Eater Benefit which was slated for August 28, 2011.

Unfortunately, our event did not carry on as planned due to the massive flooding and destruction that raged through this area of the Adirondacks on the night of August 28 — all effects of Hurricane Irene. We did not postpone the Benefit because we didn’t realize in time the effect that the storm would have on the area. In addition, much of the food & other perishables were already made and on site, and could not be preserved because the electricity & water at the Bark Eater went out that night (along with many other local sites that lost power due to the storm). Luckily, the power eventually came back on and the Bark Eater property remains unharmed by Irene.

Despite this confluence of unfortunate events, a small group of local supporters and performers were able to make it to the Benefit, and a wonderful time was had by all.

Due to the fact that most roads leading to the Bark Eater were shut down on Sunday, and many potential attendees were struggling to save their flooding properties, we were unable to raise money towards the potential sale of the property as we had planned. Despite this, our mission and search for a righteous buyer for the property continues, and we encourage anyone/everyone to contact us with any leads in the upcoming months. Please read our  MISSION and help us continue to spread the word far and wide about this magical place, and our interest in finding it a special buyer that will use it to its full potential.
